Excellent embroidered Italian royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy. Using embroidery thread and bullion wire, the center bears two lions holding lances flying the national flag with the shield of Bologna in the center topped with a crowned helmet and flanked by the Military Order of Savoy, the Civil Order of Savoy, the Order of the Crown of Italy, the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, and the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation. The motto for the Royal House of Savoy embroidered under the lions, ‘FERT’, likely means ‘His strength conquered Rhodes’ referring to Amadeus V. This flag dates from the reign of Victor Emmanuel II, (1820-1878), King of Sardinia and later Italy from 1849 to 1878. Approx. 24 x 17 inches. Most likely cut from a larger important flag.
