The Volunteer Soldier of America’ by John A. Logan, R.S. Peale & Company Publishers 1887, 706 pages, hardback, 9.5 x 6.5 inches. John Alexander Logan (1826-1886) was an American soldier and political leader. He served in the Mexican–American War and was a general in the Union Army in the American Civil War. This work pays tribute to the sacrifice of citizens when they become soldiers. The book includes a colored illustration, a portrait of John A. Logan, as well as many other illustrations throughout. It accounts many of Logan’s own memories, as well as his advocacy for military education. Book has chips, bumped corners, and wear.
