German voltage tester from WWII liberated by a US soldier. The 1940 voltage tester was manufactured by Metrawatt AG, Nurnberg, and is housed in a wooden box with black metal fittings and a leather carrying handle, which is unfortunately split at the let side. Inside the box is a manual on a tin plate affixed to the lid. On the bottom is a metal sliding cover, housing the testing wires and a battery compartment. The original battery was replace with an American battery wrapped in olive green paper labeled ‘SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY BATTERY BA-31 CGD Date of Manufacture Sep 25 1943’ and a contract number. The box is approx. 6.75 x 4.5 x 3 inches. Probably one of the more useful liberated items during WWII.
