Historical Militaria & Autographs
Two dinner menus for parties hosted by Hermann Goring and his wife Emmy Goring on Sunday 4. June 1939, one in Berlin and the other in Gatow (Berlin). Perhaps on the occasion of daughter Edda’s first birthday, she was born the year before on 2. June 1938. The cards are gilt embossed with the family crests of Hermann Goering and Emmy Goering, nee Sonnemann. The menu from Berlin shows a more formal event, offering Lobster, consomme, veal, chaud-froid, melon, and pastry, with a select list of wines. At Gatow, the location of the Luftkriegsschule II, the menu was more informal, offering smoked salmon with schnapps, dover sole and beer, ham in burgundy with punch, and ice cream. Each card bears a gilt border, is 4.5 x 6 inches, with a horizontal fold.
