Yellow six-pointed cloth Star of David. The word ‘Jew’ is to be inscribed inside the star in German. The star has been cut and the edges overlapped on the back. On the backside the cloth star bears a stamp from the ‘Wirtschaftsamt Litzmannstadt’ and a number ‘465044 IV/8.’ Lodz was the center of the textile industry in prewar Poland. The Lodz ghetto thus became a major production center under the German occupation. During the Third Reich, German authorities reintroduced the Jewish badge as a key element of their larger plan to persecute and eventually to annihilate the Jewish population of Europe. Approx. 4.5 in. from point to point.
