Order of the Legion of Honor 1830-1848 – Knight, July Monarchy, in silver gilt and enamel. The front features Henry IV’s profile and the rear two crossed French flags. A royal crown joins the cross and the ribbon. Enamel chipped at the bottom 6 o’clock point and slightly dented. The Legion of Honor is the highest French order of merit, both military and civil. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, it has been retained by all later French governments and regimes.
