(1917-1993) American politician, appointed Secretary of the Navy by President Kennedy. In 1962 he was elected Governor of Texas. He won national attention on the day of Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, November 22, 1963, when he was wounded by one of the shots fired at Kennedy. He was appointed Secretary of the Treasury in the Republican administration of President Nixon. First Day Cover, Jan. 20, 19693, with a cachet recognizing Richard Nixon’s inauguration, signed in black ink. Very good.
