EAGLE PAINTING FROM OBERSALZBERG
Oil painting of an eagle perched on a rock cliff in the mountains, , signed in the lower left corner ‘W STARK 1936.’ The painting is 14 x 20 inches, the overall size of the framed painting is 17.5 x 23.25 inches. The reverse of the canvas bears a paper label from ‘L. Vonderthann & Sohn Berchtesgaden, Art Dealer, ‘ dated ‘1 April 1937 Invoice 737.’ A second paper label reads ‘Title of the Painting: Gold eagle 1936 Details…’ The stretcher is stamped in black ink at the top ‘Administration Obersalzberg Reichs Leader Martin Bormann, ‘ carved into the stretcher is ‘Eigentum Max Amann’, Amann, party member number 3, was the first business manager of the NSDAP and head of the Franz Eher Verlag.
