Very rare example of the complex WWI Austrian Universal rod or rifle grenade. Early war developed multi-function grenade, it could be used as either a hand grenade or as a rod grenade and be fired from a rifle, the rod screws into the bottom part. The grenade came with an impact and a delay fuze. According to our research it featured an internal propeller and a parachute, which are not included. The diagram shown is included as a copy. This particular example was recovered by our consignor near the Austrian-Italian battlefields, it is 8 inches long, despite exhibiting pitting, corrosion, a crack in the brass head, very well preserved. Truly a very rare find, very good. Inert.
