WWII German trench art carved metal container. The lid is decorated with two German Swastika flags and the inscription ‘Kriegs Weihnachten 1943 SS-Berghaus Bayrischzell’ (War Christmas 1943). ‘SS-Berghaus’ most likely refers to the mountain retreat for members of the SS built in 1937-38. While the building itself was built by the SS, the later access road was built by prisoners from the concentration camp Dachau, which led to the erection of a subcamp of Dachau. Box has been sanded on the outside to match the inside shine. Sold as-is.
